Let’s start with the classics like Seinfeld. Seinfeld aired in 1989 and ran all the way through 1998. The stars of the show are Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards. It first aired on NBC, and when it did, it brought with it an entirely new kind of sitcom, a kind of show where the characters were awful, they didn’t learn any lesson and weren’t even being humanized. The cast is absolutely perfect, the self-referencing script makes it the greatest show of all time. It was on Hulu, but after years it has made its debut on Netflix in October 2021.

2. Arrested Development

This show aired in 2003 and ran all the way through 2013. The stars of the show are Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, David Cross, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Alia Shawkat and Ron Howard. The show is about a wealthy family who ends up losing everything but the one son who had to keep them all together. The idea of self-referencing postmodernism was taken to the next level. Jason Bateman played an amazing role of a straight man. All the characters were absolutely phenomenal. The show eventually made its debut on Netflix so the fans don’t have to say goodbye to it anytime soon.

3. The Good Place

This show aired in 2016 and is still on the air. The stars of the show are Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, D’Arcy Carden, Manny Jacinto and Ted Danson. It originally aired on NBC. Classic sitcoms are always about bad people. Watching this show is almost cozy and adventurous at the same time. This show is completely upfront about the flaws of the main character, which creates a playground just to test Eleanor’s worst impulses at every turn, which is played by Kristen Bell. She is shown as someone who is vain. The show just follows the tradition of sitcoms, how we all are bad people at some point or another.

4. Community

This show aired in 2009 and ended in 2015. The stars of the show are Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Chevy Chase, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash. The show originally aired on NBC and Yahoo. The story is about a group of community college students telling deep stories about outcasts striving to find acceptance, just to feel a sense of belonging. The fact that Harmon took the idea of taking basic concepts and making them into strong and driven characters was amazing. #sixseasonsandamovie is much awaited, until then this sitcom is a legend.

5. Bojack Horseman

This show aired in 2014 and ended in 2020. The stars of the show are Will Arnett, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins and Aaron Paul. Probably one of the most underrated comedies, it deserves so much more praise than it gets. Right from Bojack’s sad decline from a sitcom star to a drunkard, the theme song has been written beautifully and is probably the most thoughtful comedy ever.

The show isn’t only about the gags but it also looks at the sad realities of life. You might hate Bojack at times. What is it about the show that keeps people away? Maybe the animation? But the beyond all this, the story and the elements of the show will blow your mind. Nothing like a hilarious and Sad show.

Nothing beats a good old sitcom, something you can watch when you feel low. Sometimes you just need good shows to get you in a better mood. These shows are a must-watch.
